On March 6th 2020, Philips Hue responded to a tweet confirming they are ceasing further software updates for their v1 Hue Bridge. Compatibility with all online services will be terminated by May, however you can still control the original Hue Bridge “locally via the dedicated Philips Hue Bridge v1 app”.
After April 2020 no software updates will be made available for the Hue Bridge v1 and compatibility with our online services will be terminated at that time. The Hue Bridge v1 can still be controlled locally via the dedicated Philips Hue Bridge v1 app. >>

The original Philips Hue Bridge v1, released in 2012, served as the control centre for your Hue lights. Although Signify (formally known as Philips Lighting) have started releasing new bulbs which are Bluetooth enabled, therefore not requiring a Bridge, older users who have non-Bluetooth bulbs, or want to continue using accessories like motion sensors, will still require a Hue Bridge for advanced functionality features.
A new second-gen Hue Bridge was released in 2015, with further models released in 2016 and 2019, all are still expected to function and receive software support and updates for the foreseeable future. Although the v1 and newer models of the Hue Bridge all plug into a router to control your Philips Hue lights, they are easy to distinguish apart. The Hue Bridge v1 was a round shaped device, whereas the v2 was square-shaped and looked slightly more polished with its design and finish.
Owners of the original v1 Hue Bridge will only be able to continue use via the legacy Hue app, not compatible with the still-supported second-gen Hue Bridge. Philips Hue have recommended that all customers upgrade to the second-generation or newer Bridge. The most recent release of this product can be purchased from all good consumer electronics retailers across Australia, or contact Powermove Distribution for more information.
