Pioneer’s “Scene Style Series” Adds New Range-Topping Noise-Cancelling Wireless Headphones Supporting Hi-Res Audio and the Google Assistant
Onkyo & Pioneer (Sumida-ku, Tokyo, President & CEO Kenji Miyagi) has unveiled the luxurious S9 wireless noise-cancelling headphones (SE-MS9BN) optimised for the Google Assistant *2 and Hi-Res Audio*1 to its Scene Style Series and fit your preferred style scene. The S9 features large Φ 40 mm (1.57-inch) rare-earth-magnet drivers to enable Hi-Res Audio reproduction, and the headphones support Qualcomm® aptX™ HD audio*3 for pristine playback liberated by the freedom of a wireless connection. Designed to work seamlessly with the Google Assistant, these high-value features elevate the S9 to premier status among Pioneer’s Scene Style Series products.
Enjoy easy wireless music and hands-free calls with Bluetooth® technology
Relax with easy wireless music and hands-free conversation on smartphone. Buttons and mic on the headphone housing to allow the listener to easily adjust the volume, skip tracks, and take calls*. The S9 also features NFC functionality for instant device pairing. Maximum continuous transmission of 27 hours (NC OFF/including music playback time) extends entertainment between battery replenishment.
*Some functions may not be supported depending on the smartphone.
Optimised for the Google Assistant. Get Help on the Go with just your Voice
Continue your conversations while on the go and easily access the best of Google, from Google Play Music to Google Maps. You can quickly enjoy entertainment, stay connected to friends, get information, and manage your day all without glancing at your phone. Listen to your favorite songs, have notifications and messages read to you, or set reminders and timers. Just press and hold the button to start a conversation with your Google Assistant.
Deep, rich, and smooth sound with Hi-Res Audio reproduction capability
The S9’s large Φ 40 mm (1.57-inch) rare-earth-magnet drivers provide excellent bass extension and wide frequency response, capturing the expanded dynamic range of Hi-Res Audio when connected to a compatible player via the supplied headphone cable. Powerful Copper-Clad Aluminum Wire (CCAW) voice-coils enable clean and accurate sound throughout the audio spectrum, from deep bass notes to crystalline highs.
Better-than-CD wireless HQ playback with Qualcomm® aptX™ HD audio
In addition to AAC and Qualcomm ® aptX™ codecs, the S9 supports Qualcomm aptX HD audio codec, allowing users to enjoy HQ wireless playback without need of a cable connection. Listeners are assured of deep, clear, and spatially convincing sound for a musically satisfying experience.
Active Noise-Cancelling Technology and Ambient Awareness Mode
The S9 fills the mind with music while virtually eliminating external noise, which is distracting and detrimental to audio quality, particularly low-frequency noise from jet engines or subway cars. Active noise-cancelling technology detects external sounds and generates frequencies in opposing phase to cancel them out. In situations where some outside sound is desirable, Ambient Awareness Mode filters it in for improved situational awareness.
Multi-Point Function for work and personal phones
Multi-point Function allows two smartphones to be wirelessly connected at the same time. Take calls with one phone and listen to music with another. This presents an easy-to-manage solution for people with work and private phones.
Pioneer Headphone App for iPhone® and Android™
Developed exclusively for Pioneer headphones, the new and expansible Pioneer Headphone App* brings a host of functions to the listener’s fingertips. The app supports Bluetooth pairing, the ability to switch noise management modes, and more. Plus, Pioneer plans to add new functions via app updates in the future, which promise some exciting features for music lovers.
*Functional with a wireless connection only.
Extraordinary comfort from painstaking design
Pioneer takes comfort to a new level with the S9. To maximise immersion and ease stress, weight is evenly distributed with a wide polyurethane-cushioned headband. A balance of flexibility and firmness is achieved with sliding hangers and low-profile, low-repulsion earpads that surround the ear and properly align with the head. The result is exceptional comfort over long listening periods.
Future-focused design echoes hi-fi’s golden age
The S9 pays tribute to Pioneer’s hi-fi pedigree with tastefully blended retro-modern style burnished by aluminum housings available in a beautiful silver-accented black. The headphones mark the wearer as someone who appreciates hi-fi sound while embracing the benefits of next-wave technology, all in a product that’s constructed and finished to the highest possible standard.
Supplied cable for Hi-Res Audio and battery-free playback
Many smartphones, DAPs, and hi-fi components support Hi-Res Audio output, so it’s great to experience improved sound quality on the S9s without compromise. Just connect the cable to let its large drivers air the expanded dynamic range of Hi-Res Audio *. Even with the suggested 27-hour playback time**, it’s good to continue listening via cable should the batteries become depleted.
*With wired connection
**With Bluetooth connection, NC OFF, including music playback time.
- Echo Cancellation and Noise Suppression Function for improved phone-call quality
- Supplied with carrying pouch for travel
*1 Hi-Res Audio is enabled with the supplied headphone cable connected to a compatible player.

Best Buys Audio & AV July 2018 “The SX-10AE is almost entirely analogue — but only ‘almost’, because it does have Bluetooth. It has four sets of RCA line-level inputs, no physical digital inputs, and certainly not any network ones.” Read the full review online, but be careful, it might make you want to buy one...
